About

Hi there, I am Harpreet, 21 year old community organiser and student. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie University, majoring in Gender Studies and Sociology, minoring in Politics in addition to a certificate 4 in Youth Work at TAFE Ultimo.

I am incredibly passionate about the wellbeing of others, mental and sexual health with 8 years of diverse advocacy experiences in gender and racial justice. Previously I represented Australia at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York for three years as a Civil Society delegate. I was also Australia’s member and Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (2020-2021), a Young Women’s Policy Adviser for New South Wales Council of Social Services (2016-2019) and Macquarie University Women’s Collective President (2020). Currently, I am the Multicultural Youth Affairs Network NSW Youth Ambassador (2015-), Diversity Arts Australia Storycaster Filmmaker (2020-) and a part of the WH&Y Commission (2020-). In 2020, I helped save the gender studies program from being cut at Macquarie University and was awarded NSW Young Volunteer of the Year and awarded the 7 NEWS NSW and ACT Leadership award.

I am very eager to bring both my personal and professional experiences onboard to the WH&Y Commission, as raise the experiences and voices of young people in queer and culturally diverse communities. I am dedicated to help end the taboos, stigmas and invisible chains that are entrenched in today’s society.
