About

Melissa Kang is an Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Technology Sydney, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Practice, Westmead Clinical School at the University of Sydney. She is also Senior Career Medical Officer in Youth Health, Western Sydney Local Health District.

Melissa’s research interests include adolescent sexuality and sexual health. Her PhD involved an evaluation of a chlamydia testing intervention via randomised controlled trials conducted entirely in cyberspace. She has also explored adolescent sexuality and sexual health concerns in a range of qualitative research studies. Melissa has a major interest in the healthcare needs and healthcare access of young people, including those who are marginalised. She has led three major NSW-wide studies on access to healthcare, models of youth-friendly care and health system navigation. This work has informed NSW Youth Health Policies. Melissa has written for the popular teenage girls’ magazine ‘Dolly’ since 1993 as ‘Dolly Doctor’ and received high commendation for communication and content as these relate to young people.

Melissa will contribute primarily to Ethics & Engagement and Policy & Practice.
