Associate Professor Julie Mooney-Somers is a Senior Lecturer in Qualitative Health Research in Sydney Health Ethics, School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. 

Julie’s research focuses on equity in health and health services for LGBTI people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people and women. Her work has a particular focus on stigmatised conditions such as infectious diseases and service access related to sexual practise and drug use, and research ethics related to these topics and research processes. Julie usually employs qualitative, community-based or participatory methodologies that allow her to work in partnership with communities, non-governmental organisations and not-for-profits to conduct and translate research to reduce health disadvantages. 

Julie has considerable experience in qualitative and participatory research, and in research ethics. She will collaborate with researchers in Ethics & Engagement on the ethics and practice of engaging young people in research.
